Facilitating the expression of religious faith is one small element of the Chaplaincy team’s work. We provide regular opportunities for prayer in the hospice chapel through the week. An Act of Christian Worship incorporating Holy Communion is available each Thursday, currently at 11.30am, to which all patients, visitors and staff are welcome.
On Sundays, at 2.30pm, an Act of Worship is led by a local church group. We are grateful to the many local churches who support us in this way.
We offer prayers and Holy Communion at the bedside at any time for those patients who are unable to get to the chapel.
We take an active part in the quarterly Memory Services that are usually held at the hospice, and also the Light up a Life service at Wakefield Cathedral each December which is organised by our Fundraising team.
Whilst our chaplaincy team consists of Christian clergy, we facilitate the practice of any religious faith and actively encourage faith leaders, be they Christian or not, to attend the bedside to provide the appropriate religious care and support that a patient requests.
The Chaplaincy team are regularly asked by families of patients who die at the hospice to conduct the funeral service of their loved one. They usually express how important it is that someone who has met and known the patient and family, however briefly, take the funeral service for them. We are glad to be able to provide that service.
