Help the HospicesMorrisons Charity of the Year

Help the Hospices is delighted to have been chosen as the new Morrisons Charity of the Year. The partnership started in April 2010, with the official launch taking place on 19 May 2010, during a week of ‘Go Yellow’ fundraising activities.

Each one of Morrisons 425 stores is twinned with a local hospice for staff fundraising – with all money raised by Morrisons colleagues and through bucket collections going directly to the local hospice.

Wakefield Hospice has been twinned with four local stores including, The Ridings Shopping Centre, Dewsbury Road, Morley and Rothwell as well at the distribution centre at J41 Wakefield.

As the UK’s fourth largest supermarket, with 10 million customers every week and more than 130,000 colleagues, the partnership with Morrisons presents an exciting opportunity to raise awareness about hospice care, as well as reach and hopefully exceed the £1 million fundraising target.

Angus Maciver, Group Marketing and Communications Director, Morrisons, says: “Each year we ask our colleagues to nominate a charity that we will help ‘Raise a smile’, and for 2010, we are really pleased that Help the Hospices was the resounding choice. Local hospices do great work at the heart of the communities that many of our stores operate in and we look forward to raising some vital funds to support such a great cause.

“We will officially launch the partnership across the nation at our stores today with donation bucket collections and other activities which we hope will get the fundraising off to an excellent start to hit our £1million target.”

ATKINS GLOBAL- Make A Difference Day

Atkins Globa Group - Make A Difference DayThe Asset Management Managing Agent (MA) business’ new chosen charity, Wakefield Hospice, has benefited from a newly landscaped garden recently as staff and clients volunteered to reform disused land in the hospice grounds.

A team led by Kezia Wilkinson on behalf of the MA sports and social committee, visited the Hospice to landscape an area next to the newly built wing. The scheme was part of a number of fundraising events leading up to ‘Make a Difference Day’, the UK's biggest annual day of volunteering which takes place in October 2009.

Many of the business’ customers and suppliers including Barclays, Wilkinsons and Mitie volunteered to help and supplied all the raw materials needed free of charge.

The garden will offer another sanctuary for people associated with the Hospice and our help will enable development costs to be kept as low as possible.

Further volunteering days are planned for the future to ensure that Wakefield Hospice has the best facilities for its patients.

ATKINS GLOBAL - Three Peaks Conquered Again

Foul weather conditions didn’t stop Asset Management (AM) taking on the challenge of the Yorkshire 3 peaks recently in aid of our new charity Wakefield Hospice.

Most of the sponsorship money is still to be collected but AM are expecting to reach £25,000 which means we will have raised £125,000 for charity through the challenge over the last four years.

60 people took part in this year’s gruelling 26 mile trek over Yorkshire’s highest peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, with 31 completing the full route.

AM were joined by colleagues from across the Atkins Group with suppliers and clients also getting involved on the day including Barclays, Mitchells and Butler, NHS, Mitie, Arup and Northern Gas Networks.

Simon Prudammes from Mitchells & Butlers said: “A big thank you from the Mitchells & Butlers contingent for arranging the challenge. We all had a really enjoyable day, even those of us who didn't complete the full distance!”

Event organiser, Chris Lawrence, said; “We’ve held this event for four years now, and it is growing from strength to strength. The teamwork to help organise and support the day was excellent and really shows how strong this business can be.”

Sean Haley, Managing Director of AM, added, “The commitment shown by everyone involved has been fantastic. The amount of money that everyone has generously donated over the past four years is remarkable. I’d like to thank everyone that took part in this years challenge, a special thanks to the organisers who made this day a success.”

Well done to everyone involved, only 364 days till the next challenge!
