Abseil down Wakefield Cathedral
Saturday 5th June 2010

Thirty three daredevils agreed to abseil down the western tower of Wakefield Cathedral in a special fundraising event to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Wakefield Hospice.
Wakefield Cathedral is the tallest church in Yorkshire standing at 247 feet but this didn't put the abseilers off as each of them climbed the 158 narrow steps to reach the top of the tower.
With the help and expertise of Dave Ballamy and Carl Ham of the 299 Para Squ RE (V) TA, all the participants managed the abseil down the tower successfully.
Each participant was asked to raise a mimimum of £150 in sponsorship to complete the challenge, many have raised more and we hope the abseil will raise in excesss of £10,000 for the hospice.
Congratulations to all the brave abseilers and thanks to the TA and Cathedral for allowing us to run the event.
