On Monday 17th October 2022 we were delighted to open our Bistro (named ‘Books & Bistro’) within the Walton Community Library, located at Charles Waterton House (The Grove, Walton, WF2 6UA). We have seen some great engagement over the first two weeks of trading, and have enjoyed welcoming the local community with open arms, many thanks to all who have visited us so far. Unfortunately, like many new business ventures, we have come up against a couple of issues too– the main issue being staffing levels. As a charity venture, the ‘Books & Bistro’ business model operates around a reliance on volunteer support. These first two weeks of trading have highlighted the need for more ‘bodies on the ground’, both to ensure the bistro remains effectively operational and to ensure we are able to deliver the very best service to the local community. We have therefore had to make the difficult decision to temporarily pause the running of the bistro for the next few weeks, just whilst we reinforce our bistro team to the numbers we require. At the same time, we are also currently awaiting the final replies from a large survey across the local area, which will be analysed alongside verbal feedback over the past couple of weeks, regarding our food and beverage options moving forward. We understand that this news may come as a disappointment, particularly to local residents, but please rest assured that these steps have been taken with the best interest of the Bistro’s long-term future in mind. Sometimes we must learn to walk before we can run, and we hope you can support us through this pause in operations as we aim to lay greater foundations from which to build a successful Bistro upon in the months ahead.
