Big hearted Freemasons give hospice a £3,000 boost
Staff and volunteers at Wakefield Hospice were thrilled to receive a £3,000 cheque from the Mark Benevolent Fund, which is the official charity of the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons.

The presentation was made by Ken Parkinson of Integrity Mark Lodge, based in Wakefield and was particularly poignant as his late wife, Margaret, spent her final days at the Hospice in 2014.

He was accompanied by Alan Oldfield, Deputy Provincial Grand Master of West Yorkshire and John Whitworth, member of Beaumont Mark Lodge. The donation, which is part of a Major Capital Grant of £1.3m to over 250 hospices in England, Wales, Channel Islands and Isle of Man, recognises the contribution made by HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh to the service of the Crown and the life of the nation.

Helen Knowles, director of income generation at Wakefield Hospice said; “Gifts come in all shapes and sizes, and every one of them is as important as the next. We are immensely grateful to be nominated, and this donation today will make a difference to our patients’ lives.”

Speaking about the donation, Alan Oldfield said; “We are absolutely delighted that the members of the Province have chosen to support Wakefield Hospice. We are all well aware of the toll that the pandemic has taken on charities across the country and hope that this small gift will go some way to help enhance patient care and provide improved facilities for those in need and their families.”
