Fundraising Feat marks 50th Anniversary for Peter Duffy Limited

Peter Duffy Limited celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022. To mark the event, the company launched a year of fundraising, with an ambitious goal of contributing to five local and national charities, with one being Wakefield Hospice.

Throughout 2022, staff and suppliers of Peter Duffy Limited took part in events and raffles, while a digital totaliser counted the donations.

Some of the events were endurance challenges, like the Yorkshire Trek, a 25 mile walk through North Yorkshire countryside. A couple of cycle challenges saw the Peter Duffy Limited team come together and support a 50 mile lap race at Thomas-a-Becket’s school track and the Water Aid cycle event which began at the Grimwith reservoir and cover 80 miles.

Other, no less physical events, included the Pretty Muddy ‘fun’ run at Thornes Park, where an impressive team completed the route, although the team shirts didn’t fair so well.

The annual Peter Duffy Limited Golf Day had a slightly different format with suppliers making donations to enter their teams. Held at Hatfeild Hall Golf Course and with a celebration dinner afterwards, participants continued to support the fundraising by taking part in additional challenges like, nearest the pin and by buying raffle tickets.

Other raffles were held at the head office and on site, with prizes being kindly donated by staff and local businesses. And no fundraiser would be authentic without cakes! A competitive bake Off saw staff ‘rising’ to the challenge with their family recipes, secret ingredients and best Mary Berry attempts. The response was overwhelming, with some surprising entries from the directors.

All bakes were sold (and eaten) and funds added to the totaliser.

Now, at the start of 2023, the final amounts have been divided between the five charities and Peter Duffy, MD was thrilled to handover a cheque to Wakefield Hospice for £4,257.26.

He met with Director of Income Generation, Helen Knowles, who gratefully accepted the donation on behalf of the Hospice and said how appreciative the hospice is in these extraordinary times: “Gifts to the hospice come in all shapes and sizes, every one of them is as important as the next. Each supporter is a welcome member of the hospice family and this generous donation today will make a lasting difference to someone’s life. Thank you so much to Peter, his family, colleagues and all his friends and supporters who gave so generously.

Peter Duffy Limited are committed to supporting charities as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility policy and will continue to promote a culture of generosity within their organisation.
