Tree from Her Late Majesty The Queen planted at Wakefield Hospice
On Friday 17th March, the Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, alongside fellow local dignitaries, visited Wakefield Hospice for the planting of a special tree from Her Late Majesty The Queen’s ‘Tree of Trees.’

Of the 350 British native trees which made up the spectacular ‘Tree of Trees’ sculpture, created for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, twelve were gifted to West Yorkshire – with Ed Anderson, the Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, choosing to gift ten of the twelve trees to the ten hospices across our region.

Tina Turner, CEO of Wakefield Hospice said: “On the 27th March 1992, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II visited Wakefield Hospice, ushering in over three decades of outstanding hospice care provision for the Wakefield district.

“It therefore seems poignant that, almost 31 years to the day of this monumental occasion, we came together to plant this tree and reflect on the incredible life of Her Late Majesty.

“Still in its infancy, this tree provides a beautiful metaphorical comparison to Wakefield Hospice’s position today as we look to continue growing our reach across the Wakefield district, whilst maintaining and strengthening those solid roots and foundations which the past 31 years have been built on.”

Wakefield Hospice provides specialist palliative and end of life care to patients, and support to their families, across the Wakefield district.

Alongside the Lord-Lieutenant, Wakefield Hospice was also visited by Susan Baker, High Sheriff of West Yorkshire; Lord St Oswald, President of Wakefield Hospice; Cllr David Jones and Annette Jones, The Mayor and Mayoress of Wakefield; and Sir Rodney Walker.

The 69-foot tall "Tree of Trees" - which stood outside Buckingham Palace for two weeks in 2022 - was designed to celebrate the Queen's Green Canopy initiative, which encouraged people across the UK to plant trees during the Queen's jubilee year.

All 350 trees from the “Tree of Tree” sculpture will be planted in sites across the UK by the end of March 2023.
