Giving Tuesday

to avoid a crisis situation like our oven appeal a few years ago, we are raising money now so we’ve time to secure enough funds to replace the dishwasher before it’s too late

Wakefield Hospice is very excited to be taking part in this year’s #givingtuesday on Tuesday 27th November.

Since its inception in 2014, #givingtuesday has become one of the biggest events in the global charity calendar, breaking successive Guinness World Records for the most amount of money donated online to charity in 24 hours.  In 2016, £48 million was donated!

The concept of #givingtuesday is to provide an antidote to the mass consumerism of Black Friday and aims to get people thinking of others in the run up to Christmas.

What’s happening?
All funds raised via #givingtuesday this year will be used to ‘load’ our dishwasher fund.

With regular, repeated use and advice from our supplier, we know that our current dishwasher is approaching the end of its expected lifespan so will soon need to be replaced.

Our dishwasher has served us well but we are facing the inevitability of needing to replace it. Used all day, every day, we’d really struggle without it and to avoid a crisis situation like our oven appeal a few years ago, we are raising money now so we’ve time to secure enough funds to replace the dishwasher before it’s too late.

From our supplier, the required dishwasher would cost £4,766.99* so were asking people to fundraise and/or donate to help us reach this target.

In a hospice environment though, a dishwasher does more than just clean the dishes!

How you can get involved
You can organise a fundraising event or simply donate a few £s on via our campaign webpage
*NB: In the eventuality that we are fortunate enough to raise surplus funds to the cost price of the dishwasher, these funds will be retained and used by Wakefield Hospice where the need is deemed greatest.

Then on #givingtuesday, Tuesday 27th November, take to social media, share, retweet, tag to help spread the word.

If you’re organising an event, we’d love to hear from you and can provide balloons, collecting boxes and t-shirts to help promote your event.  For ideas on what you can do, click here
