Lights on the Lake

“To be a star you must shine your own light, follow your own path and don’t worry about the darkness for that is when the stars shine the brightest.” Anonymous

Join us in memory of loved ones and support Wakefield Hospice by sponsoring a light on the lake at sunset.

On Saturday 17 June at 9.30pm, as the sun sets, we will be floating hundreds of candles on the lake at Pugneys Country Park to represent the light that families say our care team provides during a dark time in their lives.

You don’t need to attend the event to sponsor a candle. You are welcome to dedicate a candle to the memory of a loved one or simply to support the work of the Hospice. After you add your message to your candle, our team will float it – along with hundreds of other candles – on rafts on the lake. These will be floated from around 9.30pm as the sun sets. Lanterns will help light up the water, and the evening will culminate in a short firework display at around 10.30pm.

Parking for the event will be available at Pugneys (Asdale Road WF2 7BN) at their usual rates. Parking space may be limited so we ask people to share cars where possible.

Please note that the candles are battery-powered to withstand a summer shower or breeze, but in the event of heavy rain or strong winds the event may be postponed.

We hope you can support the appeal and be part of this special evening by sponsoring a candle. Watch our short film to hear how your donation will help will help us provide free, high quality end-of-life care to local people with serious illnesses. Our grateful thanks to Minster Law for sponsoring this event and making this film for us.
