Lights on the Lake

“Don’t worry about the darkness, for that is when the stars shine the brightest.” Anonymous

Remember a loved one by sponsoring a candle on Saturday 9 June and help make a special display of lights on the lake. As the sun sets, we’ll be floating hundreds of candles on the water to represent the light that families say our care team provides during a dark time in their lives. The evening will end with a short firework display at around 10.30pm.
By sponsoring a candle you’ll help us provide free, high quality care to seriously ill people and their loved ones. You’ll receive a keepsake postcard in return for your dedication.
You don’t need to attend the event to sponsor a candle. Our team will place all the candles on rafts which will be floated on the lake as the sun sets. Families often tell us that Wakefield Hospice is the light that has guided them through a dark time in their lives and our display of candles will symbolise the light in the darkness.

‘When I was diagnosed with cancer, my world went totally upside down. The hospice has made life much easier. It’s a place where I’ve found the most amazing kindness. Not only for the patients, but for the family as well. I drop in when I need extra support. I know I can rely on the hospice at those times.’
Pat Herbert, Day Therapy Unit patient
Please dedicate your candle before the event as we can’t guarantee candles will be available on the day. If you’d like to add your dedication yourself, please arrive by 9.30pm at the latest to collect your candle. If we’re adding your dedication for you, please arrive by 10.15pm to watch the firework display.  You don't need to attend the event to dedicate a candle.

Parking will be available at Pugneys (Asdale Road WF2 7BN) at their usual rates. Parking space may be limited so we ask people to share cars where possible. You can pre-order a parking voucher for Pugneys (suggested donation £1) when you dedicate your candle. Please note that normal parking charges will apply if you don’t have a parking voucher.
Please note that the candles are battery-powered to withstand a light breeze or shower, but the event may be postponed if poor weather is forecast.
