All donations towards our Candles at the Castle appeal help to fund vital hospice services for local patients and families throughout the year. Anyone can dedicate a candle - you do not need to have a connection to the hospice. All we ask is for a minimum donation of £10 per dedication. Come August your dedication will help to create a beautiful spectacle at one of Wakefield's most iconic landmarks - Sandal Castle - whilst supporting local hospice care. Make your dedication online
Everyone is welcome to join us on Saturday 22 August between 18:00-21:00 at Sandal Castle for our free, family-friendly in-memory event. Enjoy live music, walk around our beautiful candle display and find your loved one's name on our dedication wall. Refreshments will be available to purchase and limited seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with attendees welcome to bring their own picnic blankets or camping chairs.
This year, everyone who makes a dedication will also have the opportunity to decorate their own Candle Bag before the event, adding your own personal touch to the display.

*Please note: If decorating your own Candle Bag - all bags must be collected from Wakefield Hospice Reception before Wednesday 05 August. (Collection address and times: Wakefield Hospice, Aberford Road, Wakefield, WF1 4TS, collection available Monday-Sunday 10am-4pm) | If you choose to decorate your own Candle Bag, it is your responsibility to collect the bag before the deadline above and bring the completed bag with you to the in-memory event on Saturday 22 August. | On the day of the event, all Candle Bags will be displayed in alphabetical order. Decorated bags will then be displayed together at the end of the display. | If you choose not to decorate your own Candle Bag, a Candle Bag displaying your loved one’s full name will still be prepared and displayed at the event, following the same process as previous years.
