Course details:

This three hour training session will allow registered nurses to enhance their clinical skills and refresh their knowledge around syringe drivers. This training session gives an opportunity to learn the theory behind syringe drivers and why they are used, the practical application of syringe drivers in clinical practice and end of life, and how to set up a syringe driver, so you feel more confidence when using them in your practice. 

Topics will include:
• Discussing indications for starting the use of a syringe driver
• The uses of syringe pumps in palliative care
• Commonly used drugs used in the end of life care
• Setting up and monitoring a Mckinley T34 and Bodyguard T pump
• Converting oral to continuous subcutaneous infusion 
• A demonstration and practical activity

Suitable for:
Registered nurses or doctors who are unfamiliar with the syringe pumps and would like to use them for palliative care patients. 

Format:
The day will include presentations, group discussions and interactive sessions.
