An introduction to our ReUnite Devices

First piloted in 2024 with the support of Wakefield Memory Action Group (MAG) and West Yorkshire Police - funded by the Mayor of West Yorkshire Mayor’s Safer Communities Fund - ReUnite Devices were designed to support those living with dementia to return home if they become disorientated or lost.

The devices – available as a wristband, badge or fob - use NFC technology (installed in most mobile phones) to read a tiny chip inside each device. A person must simply place their phone over the device, and once the chip is picked up it will display the name of the user on the person’s phone along with two emergency contact numbers.

As of February 2025 we currently have a small amount of devices available for sale at a price of £9.99 per device (plus P&P).

What you need to know before registering

Upon completing your transaction, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to fill out the emergency contact details which will be attributed to your device.

To set up your device we will need to capture some of your information – done so in an online form. This information will include:
1) The name of the person living with dementia
2) The name and phone numbers of up to 2 x emergency contacts

Please make sure:
1) The information provided is accurate
2) The individual who will be the intended user of the device is aware you are completing the form on their behalf and you have their consent to do so

Further Information

Each ReUnite Dementia Device costs £9.99 (inc P&P) and will be shipped within 5-10 working days of placing your order.

How much are the devices?

Each device is £9.99* please note this price excludes P&P (postage and packaging).

Do i need to download an app?

No, you do not need an app! Our devices use technology called NFC which works by tapping your phone against the device, and that’s it! (This is exactly how your contactless payments work on your phone, and the same way a phone can read QR codes).

Can i order a device outside of West Yorkshire?

Currently our ReUnite devices are only available to people residing within West Yorkshire.

What is NFC?

NFC stands for Near Field Communication a type of technology which is installed in most mobile phones, which enables your phone to read a tiny microchip. (A similar way to how your phone can read QR codes)

Please make sure your mobile device is up to date, to take advantage of the latest NFC capabilities.

Can they be used in care homes?

Yes our ReUnite devices are a great choice for care homes.

What should I do if I see someone wearing one?

Firstly identify the person and see if they are alone.
Next, assess the individual to check for any signs of vulnerability - if you think the person appears lost, scan their ReUnite device and contact the emergency contact details.
(If you are unsure about a person being lost, ask them if they are okay - some people may be at an earlier stage of dementia than others, meaning their level of vulnerability will vary.)

Can they only be used for people living with dementia?

Our ReUnite project was primarily set up to support people living with dementia, however these devices are great for any vulnerable person, for all ages.

Are the devices waterproof?

The devices are showerproof however, they are not reccomended to use in water for long periods of time.

Do the devices work outside of the UK?

The ReUnite devices will work anywhere however, it relies on members of the public recognising and understanding how to use the device.

What if i change my phone number?

The devices can be re-programmed, alternatively you may prefer to re-order a new device.

Do the devices need to be charged?

No the devices do not require electricity and are powered through a microchip within the device.
