What is the Phenomenal Fund?

Phenomenal – this is the word Charlotte used to describe the care given to her husband Tom during his stay at Wakefield Hospice (pictured above). To Tom, Charlotte and their two young boys the hospice was a sanctuary; a safe place where they could be a family again. Tom was so thankful of the care given to him adding: ‘I haven’t got enough words to say…it was everything to me'. Sadly Tom passed away in the Spring of 2023, aged just 40 years old.

Please watch Tom and Charlotte’s heartfelt interview here.

What is the Big Give Christmas Challenge?

For the first time Wakefield Hospice is taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge which is the UK’s biggest match-funded campaign. We are calling on all our amazing supporters to help smash our £8,000 online target which will then be generously match funded by the New Inn at Walton and the Reed Foundation, giving us a grand total of £16,000 and more to provide phenomenal care to patients and families.

Your support really does make a difference - to help other families like Tom and Charlotte’s, please donate from 12noon on 28th November to 12noon on 5th December 2023, and see your donation doubled as part of the Big Give Christmas Challenge.

Why we need the Phenomenal Fund?

Over 30 years ago, the generosity of the Wakefield community brought the hospice to life and our dedicated supporters have helped to make the best of every moment, every day, for patients like Tom and his family. But during these financially uncertain times our supporters are facing their own difficulties and donations have fallen.

The Phenomenal Fund aims to raise over £16,000 during the seven days of the campaign to help protect the hospice’s future during the cost of living crisis.

For families like Tom, the service provided was simply priceless. It is the comfort, the love and the tender care we are able to provide patients and families in homely surroundings; it is the wonderful feeling of being safe, where nothing else matters except spending quality time with loved ones. Indeed, the greatest gift we can give patients and their families is time: time to reminisce and time to make lasting memories.

So don’t forget, to double your donation to the Phenomenal Fund, please donate from 12noon on 28th November until 12noon 5th December 2023. Please note, this link is only live between these dates.

If you are a UK tax-payer, please don’t forget to tick the Gift Aid box when you donate, as your gift will be worth even more (an extra 25%) at no extra cost to you. For example, a donation of £10 during the Big Give Christmas Challenge week will be worth £22.50 towards achieving our target. A £100 donation would raise an incredible £225!* (*Gift aid value cannot be doubled)
What will be the impact of the Phenomenal Fund?

Your support will mean we can continue to provide phenomenal care to patients and families within the Wakefield area, without compromise and the fear of limiting services due to funding issues. Christmas is usually the time of year when the hospice receives the most donations but last year there was a notable reduction. This campaign will help safeguard our services during the winter months for those who will rely on hospice care.

From everyone at Wakefield Hospice - Thank you for your support.
