Funeral collections
If you are arranging a funeral you may like to ask friends and family to make a donation to the hospice to honour your loved one. By doing so, you will be making a practical difference in memory of your loved one and we hope this brings you some comfort at this sad time.

Organising a funeral collection

If you’d like friends and relatives to make donations to Wakefield Hospice in lieu of flowers, your funeral director can advise you on the most suitable wording. It’s usually similar to the following: Donations can be made to Wakefield Hospice, Aberford Road, Wakefield WF1 4TS. Registered charity 518392.  www.wakefieldhospice.org

Envelopes designed especially for funeral collections are available from the hospice free of charge. They can be left blank or printed with the name of your loved one. They make it easy for friends and family to let us know if we can claim Gift Aid on their donation, increasing its value at no cost to them. To order envelopes, please call our fundraising team on 01924 331401 or contact us via our website.

Request funeral envelopes

You may want to place the envelopes on seats before the service, or make them available for people to collect on their way into or out of the venue or after the service. You can also mention the collection in the Order of Service. Collecting tins and plates are also available free from the hospice. The funeral director should be able to advise you on what is permitted at the venue.

You may wish to set up a Tribute Page which shows the total donated to commemorate your loved one. A Tribute Page can include the funeral collection and any other ways friends and family have given in memory, such as Tree of Life dedications, event sponsorship and one-off donations.

Paying in the collection

If the funeral director asks you to pay the collection to the hospice yourself, you can do this in several ways.

If you're able to call in to the hospice you can deliver the collection in person. During office hours you can speak to a member of our fundraising team, or you can drop the collection off at our Reception anytime 9am–5pm.

Alternatively, you can pay the collection into your own bank account and send us a cheque made payable to 'Wakefield Hospice'. Please post it to Wakefield Hospice, Aberford Road, Wakefield WF1 4TS with your details and the name of the person being remembered. Please don’t send cash through the post.

You can also donate securely online through our website. The online form includes a space for you to tell us who the collection is in memory of.

Pay in a collection online

Whichever way you pay in the collection, it will be acknowledged with a letter of thanks from us, stating the total amount received. Please note that we're not able to give out individual names or amounts due to the Data Protection Act.  If individuals are happy for us to claim Gift Aid on their donations, please ask them to add their details to an envelope.
