Light up a Life
Each Christmas we invite you to remember a loved one by dedicating a light on the Tree of Lights. The Tree will be lit with hundreds of white lights shining for loved ones being remembered. You’ll receive a personalised Light up a Life card showing your dedication, and your donation will help care for seriously ill people and their families.

There’s no minimum donation and anyone can dedicate a light – you don’t need to have a connection to the hospice.

Remember someone special this Christmas

The name of each person being remembered for Light up a Life will appear in the Book of Blessings which will be displayed at Wakefield Cathedral until Twelfth Night. You can also request a small copy of the Book of Blessings so you can view your dedication at home.

Please ensure we receive your dedication by 30 November for it to appear in the copy of the Book of Blessings. After that date, any further dedications will appear in the back of the Book of Blessings at the cathedral and will not appear in the small copies of the Book.

You can request a Home Pack with details of how to join our service at home. The Home Pack includes the Order of Service, prayers, readings, a Light up a Life badge and a candle.  Please note that your Book of Blessings will arrive separately from your Home Pack.

You don’t need to join a service to support the appeal – you can simply dedicate a light if you prefer.

Thank you

Thank you for supporting the Light up a Life appeal. Your donation will help provide the highest quality care for people with life-limiting illness. With your help, the hospice will care for around 240 inpatient admissions and hundreds of day therapy attendances in the coming year. The vast majority of the hospice’s funding comes from charitable sources and these services are only available because of your generosity. Each year the Light up a Life appeal raises around £35,000 which helps to pay for around 1,400 hours of nursing care.

Our grateful thanks also go to Consort Healthcare for their support of our Light up a Life appeal.
