“We have made some great friends over the years at the Wellbeing Sessions, learnt some great tips and advice by sharing experiences and grown so much in confidence – it has changed our lives and it can change yours too, just give it a go, you will be glad you did.” Pat, Service User
Every Friday we host our weekly Wellbeing Sessions in The Seymour Suite, a warm, friendly and safe space for people to come together. These sessions are open to anyone living within the Wakefield district who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness, along with their carer and/or significant other.
The aim of these sessions is to support attendees with their physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs whilst promoting independence through discussions, teaching and signposting. Visitors to the Friday Wellbeing Sessions are welcome to use this time as they wish, see the FAQ "Activities Available" for more information.
Every Friday morning between 10:00am-12pm, and every Friday afternoon between 1pm-3:00pm. You are welcome to come at whatever time you like, whether it be for 30 minutes or a few hours. We do just ask that you book before attending in order that we can manage numbers efficiently.
Our only referral criteria is that you live within the Wakefield district and you have either been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness, or are the carer of someone who has been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness. You do not need to have been a patient with Wakefield Hospice before in order to attend these sessions, nor do you need a direct referral from your doctor, hospital or any other healthcare professional.
Nothing! Our Friday Wellbeing Sessions are free to attend (any small donations are always appreciated but there will never be any obligation to do so).
We offer light refreshments throughout the sessions or tea, coffee, biscuits and cakes. We do not currently provide a lunch service at our Friday Wellbeing Sessions.

We understand that childcare or prearranged responsibilities can mean service users may want to bring their child along to the Wellbeing sessions. We can offer service users the opportunity to bring their child along but only during limited times. If you are bringing your child and planning on accessing some of the 1-2-1 support available (e.g. complementary therapy), you will need to bring another responsible adult to look after the child whilst you are away from them. If you would like to bring your child along we ask that you first contact our clinical team on 01924 331400 to discuss further.
If you are unable to attend on a Tuesday, we do have remote support services available including through our 24/7 helpline (click here for more details) or through digital contact with our Day Therapy Staff and Volunteers. For further information please call 01924 331400.
