Statement from Wakefield Hospice
Over the past twelve months it has been our absolute privilege to serve the local community of Walton through our café ‘WH Kitchen @ The Grove’ located in Charles Waterton House.
Customers soon became regulars, and regulars soon became friends. We are so grateful to each and every person who has paid us a visit and not just supported our café, but in turn supported the vital care services provided to local patients and families here at Wakefield Hospice.
Unfortunately, we have reached a crossroad with the running of WH Kitchen @ The Grove whereby the difficult decision to stop trading has had to be made.
Effective from Monday 22nd January 2024 we will no longer be running our café service from Charles Waterton House.
The financial challenges faced with the running of WH Kitchen @ The Grove, and the forecasted expenditure of maintaining the establishment were no longer considered viable, and so we made the difficult decision to close the café in the best interest of Wakefield Hospice, our patients and their families.
Once again we would like to thank every single person who has supported WH Kitchen @ The Grove since we first opened – to all of our customers, our staff and our incredible volunteers, we truly cherish your support.
WH Kitchen on the road, our outside catering offering, will continue to operate alongside the running of our catering trailer (The Munchkin) and we look ahead to 2024 with optimism for the opportunities which these projects will bring.
We thank you for your kind understanding at this time and would like to take this opportunity to reiterate our promise to the community of Wakefield, our community, that we will continue to treasure every penny raised whilst ensuring every penny spent is carefully considered - with the primary intention of caring for local patients and families at the heart of every decision we make - as it has been for the past 34 years.
