Reception
It’s important that our patients and their visitors receive a warm welcome and reassurance on their arrival. It can seem overwhelming and frightening so a positive first impression really counts. For business callers, donors, contractors and other visitors, we want to provide a welcome that’s professional and efficient but always friendly
Admin, Clerical & Accounting Support
You may be ‘at home’ at a desk, confident on the telephone, using a database or completing a spreadsheet. If so, our admin staff may have a task for you! There are other, less technical jobs too – let us know what you feel comfortable with and we can match your skills to our needs
Patient & Family Support
Volunteers can provide invaluable help to our clinical and nursing staff, supporting patients with meals, refreshments and social activities. This might be on our In-Patient Unit, within Day Services, Complementary Therapies or Bereavement Support
Gardeners, Driver and Caretakers, Housekeeping & Laundry, Catering
Our gardens can be a much needed place of calm and reflection for families to spend with loved ones so it’s important that the grounds are kept in good condition throughout the seasons. We need drivers to make local collections and deliveries on behalf of the Hospice. Help with basic DIY and maintenance around the building and grounds is always welcome, as is support with Housekeeping. You might enjoy helping our catering team meal preparation and service. All these functions are overseen by our Facilities Team and they would love to meet you
Fundraisers & Community Engagement
We have many fundraising events throughout the year, from our famous 10k run to local coffee mornings, and everything in between. We always need plenty of willing hands to help make things go smoothly and to maintain our profile in the community. These occasional volunteer roles are ideal for those who may not be able to commit to regular hours
Retail Support – in shops and online
We have shops in Wakefield City Centre, Horbury and Ossett selling donated and new goods. Our retail offer is bright and aims to attract customers through the eye catching displays and shop floor layout.
If you enjoy good customer service and are looking for a very sociable role, this may be the one for you
Our Ebay operation is based at our shop at WH Retail, George Street, Wakefield. It involves preparing products for sale via e-commerce platforms, wrapping and preparation for postage or collection. If you have skills in online trading, please get in touch
Warehouse and Distribution
Our Warehouse team deal with large volumes of donations and ensure that these are sorted and forwarded on to our retail outlets, ready for sale. You might enjoy helping with this process or you could help our van drivers with loading/unloading vehicles, collections and deliveries. These roles can be physically demanding

Corporate Supporters
We love to engage with businesses and many local companies are amongst our most valued supporters. Fundraising for the Hospice can be an excellent way for businesses to take part in team building, either through a direct visit to the Hospice or taking part in an event on behalf of us. There are many ways you can support us through your business. You provide the enthusiasm, we’ll provide everything else you need!
